What is the benefit to incorporating thermal sensors into additive manufacturing?
Answer: Stratonics sensors provide visualization of thermal and dimensional data to gain understanding of the physics, stabilities, in-stabilities, and dynamics of the process. This information is used to validate models, reduce iterations, maintain/control parameters, generate a digital thread for parts, and minimize machine-to-machine variability.

What is the difference between the Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) and the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) ThermaViz® Sensors?
Answer: The melt pool in the DMLS process is significantly smaller and moves at much higher speeds; therefore the DMLS sensor operates at a higher frame rate and increased resolution. Both LMD and DMLS sensors record in real time, but only the LMD process is slow enough to visualize in live display, real time.

What temperature range can the sensors detect?
Answer: The ThermaViz® Imaging Pyrometer’s range is 1000°-2500°C and the Global Heat Flow Sensor’s range is 300° - 2500°C.

How is ThermaViz® different from an industrial pyrometer?
Answer: Our pyrometer is a vision based sensor, producing high resolution imagery.

How do you handle large quantities of data?
Answer: ThermaViz® software data extraction feature compresses large data files into a small number of important metrics.
